Wi-Fi or Bluetooth will not connect after an update

If the problem started right after an update, it is almost certainly a saved network setting, not the antenna.

Network settings are carried over during an update and sometimes end up in a contradictory state. The symptom is typical: the phone sees the network but will not connect, or connects and drops immediately.

Resetting network settings

This is the fix in most cases.

On iPhone: Settings → General → Transfer or Reset → Reset → Reset Network Settings.

On Android: Settings → System → Reset → Reset Wi-Fi, mobile data and Bluetooth.

Important: this deletes saved Wi-Fi passwords and paired Bluetooth devices. Nothing else is lost — photos, apps and messages stay. Have your home network password ready beforehand.

Try the smaller thing first

Forget only the problem network and add it again. Turn airplane mode on and off for 10 seconds. Restart the router — if the Wi-Fi problem affects the whole flat rather than one phone, that is often where it lives.

When it is not software

If Wi-Fi will not switch on at all — the toggle slides back — or Bluetooth sees no devices anywhere, that starts to look like a hardware problem in the module.

Also: if the phone was dropped and since then only picks up a network from close range, the antenna or its connector may have shifted.
